Trerise Gallery, Plymouth, March 2013
The area surrounding Trerise Gallery has a rich history which can be detected via the remaining traces of concrete platforms. These traces trigger memories of busy tidal pools, diving boards and the pier, which contrasts the physical site during the deserted wintery months. Laura Hopes, Kelly Soper, Rosie King and I produced artworks and co-curated the exhibition, which aims to represent these traces of the past, paying particular attention to the social history of the site. Trerise Gallery has a prominent location on the Hoe which allows a relationship with people passing by and locals alike.
Platform, a fabric sculpture made in collaboration with Laura Hopes, aims to further highlight the contrast of past and present, of physical and psychological.
